On March 15, the bunkering tanker “Si Jie 21” loaded approximately 1,600 tons of high-sulfur biofuel oil at Sinochem Xingzhong’s Aoshan Base and subsequently fueled the foreign cargo vessel “COSCO ITALY” at the Ningbo Zhoushan Port International Container Terminal. This marked the first successful transfer of high-sulfur biofuel oil at Sinochem Xingzhong’s Aoshan Base and the first time Zhoushan Port has fueled high-sulfur biofuel oil for an international vessel, signifying a breakthrough for Zhoushan Port in bonded green bunker supply.
High-sulfur biofuel combines the advantages of traditional high-sulfur bunker and biodiesel, offering significant environmental benefits by reducing sulfur oxides and carbon emissions, thereby accelerating the green and low-carbon transition of the shipping industry. The transferred high-sulfur biofuel oil comprises 24% waste cooking oil and 76% high-sulfur fuel oil, potentially reducing vessel carbon emissions by up to 20%.
To ensure the smooth completion of the first high-sulfur biofuel oil bunkering operation, Sinochem Xingzhong collaborated closely with various port regulatory agencies in Zhoushan, meticulously planning and coordinating efforts, thereby accumulating precious experiences for the following scaled-up operation in the future.
