As the new year unfolds and the old one fades away, we bid farewell to the industrious year of 2023 and embrace the promising year of 2024 with renewed vigor. On this occasion, I would like to extend, on behalf of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Sinochem Energy, my festive greetings and best wishes to leaders at all levels, partners, and friends from all sectors of society who have cared for and supported the development of Sinochem Energy; to all employees who work diligently across the country and around the world; and to retired employees and their families who hold a deep affection for the undertakings of Sinochem Energy.

The year 2023 marked the beginning of the full implementation of the guidelines of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It was indeed an extraordinary year marked by economic recovery following the transition from the three-year COVID-19 prevention and control. Facing a complex and challenging external environment, as well as difficulties such as weak social expectations and a downturn in the petrochemical industry, we delved deep into CPC-themed education, nurturing our mindsets with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era under the strong leadership of the Party Leadership Group of Sinochem Group. We gained a better understanding of the economic, political, and social responsibilities of state-owned enterprises, fostered a stronger sense of identity and pride as employees of state-owned enterprises, and more solidly fulfilled our mission and responsibility as “guardians of the nation’s interests.” This year, we fully implemented the guidelines of the 20th CPC National Congress and took in-depth actions to deepen and enhance the reform of state-owned enterprises. We continued to advance the consolidation of Sinochem and ChemChina, achieved significant progress in business integration, and optimized our organizational structure. We demonstrated the “vigor and spirit” of Sinochem in the new era and forged ahead to overcome difficulties despite pressures. We enhanced quality and efficiency in an all-around manner, built up our operational capabilities for excellence, and consolidated the foundation for high-quality development, achieving breakthroughs in the modernization of the industrial chain. These hard-won achievements should be cherished. 

As we embrace the first rays of sunlight in 2024, we are embarking on a new journey. We must face difficulties and challenges head-on while strengthening our confidence and determination. We must always bear in mind “the nation’s interests,” aligning  with Sinochem Group’s mission of “undertaking important national strategic missions in the comprehensive chemical industry.” As the primary operating entity of Sinochem Group’s petrochemical business, Sinochem Energy shoulders the crucial responsibility of strengthening the foundation and filling gaps in the industrial chain of basic chemicals. We must align our responsibilities and missions more consciously, upholding the principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, fostering stability through progress, and laying new groundwork before dismantling the old. With an enterprising mindset, we must proactively assume our duties and leverage the benefits of upstream and downstream integration to continuously drive integration, synergies, and deep convergence of the industry. We should build and consolidate our refining and chemical bases, upgrade the industrial foundation and modernize the industrial chain, deepen reforms, mitigate and dissolve risks, and inject strong impetus into transformation and development. 

Adversity forges courage and perseverance, while trials pave the way to success. China is witnessing a positive momentum of economic recovery, with promising prospects for growth. In the new year, we must closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core and follow the plans outlined by the Party Leadership Group of Sinochem Group. We must remain confident, proactive, and fully committed to deepening the company’s reform and transformation and driving high-quality development to new heights, thereby contributing to the rejuvenation of a strong Chinese nation.
