On October 9, 2023, 325.897 tons of B24 biofuel loaded onto Sinochem Xingzhong’s bunkering barge “Sijie 21” was successfully supplied to the container ship “NEW MINGZHOU 60” anchored at Mazhi Anchorage in Zhoushan Port. This milestone marks Sinochem Xingzhong as the first oil storage enterprise in China to provide “marine green biofuel” to foreign vessels at anchorage. It also represents the successful completion of the first direct maritime bunkering operation for bonded marine biofuel in Ningbo’s Zhoushan Port.

Since July this year, under the guidance of relevant authorities, including Zhoushan Customs, Zhoushan Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), and Zhoushan Port and Shipping Administration Bureau, Sinochem Xingzhong has actively engaged with various bonded fuel bunkering enterprises in Zhoushan. Multiple discussions have been held to refine the operational management processes for the inbound/outbound handling of B24 biofuel and bunkering services. Thorough deliberations and preparations have been made concerning storage terminal operations and overall coordination to ensure the successful execution of the first direct maritime bunkering of B24 biofuel.

B24 fuel is a marine green biofuel containing 24% biodiesel, which can effectively reduce carbon emissions and mitigate environmental pollution. In the marine fuel sector, B24 fuel boasts various advantages, such as flexible supply, straightforward operation, and no need for technical, safety, or design modifications, compared with new energy sources like green methanol and green hydrogen. If compared to traditional fossil fuels, it can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout its lifecycle, making it a vital energy source for promoting green and low-carbon shipping.
